Pray Like He's Coming Tomorrow
"Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer."
Romans 12:12 admonishes us to be "devoted" to prayer. What does that mean? The definition of devoted is to "concentrate with a purpose," to "give one's time to," "having strong love or loyalty for something." Do these definitions describe your prayer life? Five times in the New Testament (including Romans 12:12) the word DEVOTE is used in Conjunction with prayer:
- Acts 1:14 (after the ascention of Jesus while the disciples were wating in Jersusalem) "All these with one accord were devoting themselves to prayer, together with the women and Mary the mother of Jesus, and his brothers."
- Acts 2:42 (Of the early converts in Jerusalem) "And they devoted themselves to the apostles ' teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers."
- Acts 6:42 ( the Apostles say) "But we will devote ourselves to prayer and to the ministry of the word."
- Col. 4:2 (Paul says to all of us) " Devote yourselves to prayer, keeping alert in it with an attitude of thanksgiving."
