Real estate transactions for the property were completed February 3, 1961. The building permit was issued April 13, 1961 and the first worship service in the new building was conducted September 17, 1961. The classroom area was enlarged in 1974, and the parking area was expanded in 1979. Additional restroom facilities were added in 1995. In the spring of 2001, the original foyer of the building was removed and a new, expanded foyer, nursery, and restroom facility was added. A utility building was also constructed on the property. In 2002, an additional lot was purchased on Cumberland Street adjoining our present property. This will allow for the future expansion and growth of our facilities when needed.
Brother C.L. Overturf preached the first series of gospel lessons in October 1961 during which eleven young people obeyed the gospel. Each year, thereafter, at least one gospel meeting has been conducted contributing to the growth of College View and the cause of Christ in this area. In June of 1995, we began the Annual College View
Lectures. These summer programs have proven effective and useful for the edification and development of the College View church. For many years, a Vacation Bible School has been conducted each summer, and a Gospel meeting has been held in the early fall. For more than 25 years, the church has hosted a weekly television broad cast over Comcast Cable in the Shoals. Another significant, historic feature of our work is the young preacher training program. This development program for young men who aspire to preach the Gospel has been a part of our local work since 1974. To date, eighteen young preachers have been trained in this program.
Since the beginning of the College View congregation in 1960, five new congregations have been established in this area. Each of these include former College View members who continue to faithfully serve the Lord.
As College View has reached her 43rd year, our aim is the same today as in the beginning. We wish to be a fruitful, faithful church of Christ. Our goal is to preach Christ, "Warning every man and teaching evey man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus." (Colossians 1:28).
